Experience the best of Luang Prabang’s river adventure on this full-day kayaking tour to the famous Pak Ou Caves and Ban Xang Hai (Whisky Village). Enjoy breathtaking scenery, local culture, and gentle paddling along the Nam Ou and Mekong Rivers.
Your local guide will pick you up from your hotel at 8:30 AM. After a short drive north of Luang Prabang (about 1 hour), you’ll arrive at the kayaking starting point. Here, your guide will provide all necessary kayak equipment, a safety briefing, and basic paddling techniques before the adventure begins.
Start paddling down the Nam Ou River for about 1.5 hours, surrounded by stunning limestone cliffs and lush green landscapes. On arrival at Pak Ou Village, enjoy a delicious Lao-style lunch at a riverside restaurant.
After lunch, kayak across the Mekong River to visit the incredible Pak Ou Caves, home to thousands of Buddha statues placed there by devotees over centuries. Your guide will share fascinating insights into the caves’ history and spiritual significance.
Once you’ve explored both the lower and upper caves, continue kayaking down the Mekong River for about 1.5 hours to reach Ban Xang Hai (Whisky Village). Here, you’ll see how locals produce traditional Lao rice whisky — and, if you wish, try a small sample.
After visiting the village, paddle to the final stop where your vehicle awaits. You’ll then be transferred back to Luang Prabang, arriving at your hotel in the late afternoon. Your kayaking adventure concludes with warm farewells from your guide and driver.
